Sofia began playing tennis at the age of 9. She rose through the rankings to become a top 10 player in juniors in her home country. At the age of 16 she transitioned to professional tennis and achieved a WTA doubles ranking of 576. In 2018, Sofia came to America to play for the University of Kansas, where she played a significant role in helping the team achieve a top 7 national ranking, win the BIG12 Championship, and reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
After completing her undergraduate degree, she pursued a master’s degree at Washburn University, taking advantage of the COVID year to compete among Division 2 schools. During this time, she became the number 1 player in the country, was runner-up at the D2 National Tournament, led the team to win the MIAA Conference, and advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.
In her final year of her master’s program, she served as a graduate assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at Washburn University. With her help, both teams set new records: the men’s team reached a program-best ranking of number 5 in the country, won the MIAA Conference Tournament, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA. The women’s team also set a program record by reaching number 3 in the country. They also made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Sofia spent her 2024 summer working at John McEnroe Academy in New York. She is excited to share her knowledge and passion with all of the people at the club and help them to improve.
